WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Revoke Sent Messages And Even Edit Them After Hitting ‘Send’!

Everyone’s favourite instant messaging app, WhatsApp, has a couple of interesting features in the works, according to unconfirmed leaked images. It will soon let you edit outgoing messages and even pull them back altogether from your recipients’ phones.

The fact that WhatsApp was working on these two messaging features emerged when Twitter user WABetaInfo leaked them after getting their hands on a beta version of the iOS app.
WhatsApp Beta Revoke Edit
If you’ve ever used Gmail’s undo email feature, which lets you revoke a sent message within 30 seconds of hitting the Send button, WhatsApp’s revoke or undo message option is going to work in much the same way. We don’t know how much of a time window WhatsApp will allow messages to have before revoking them.
Here’s a quick video of how the revoke message feature is expected to work on WhatsApp:
Whatsapp users will also be able to edit sent messages very soon, according to the leaked images. Does this mean no Whatsapp chat conversation will ever be sacrosanct in the future? Will everyone have two different versions of events, according to their Whatsapp chat histories?
We think the upcoming Whatsapp revoke and edit sent message features are good for when two people are fighting and exchanging heated messages, and to undo typo-ridden messages in general. But it should be allowed within a stipulated time window, like the Gmail undo email option. For people facing online harassment, this Whatsapp feature could be potentially bad.

Given the fact that Whatsapp will discontinue a whole host of phones from the new year, we’ll see how these new features plays out, as these new Whatsapp features are slated to go live soon first on iOS, followed by the messaging app’s Android and Windows Phone versions.
